We are responsible for Sweden's largest deposit system of cans and PET bottles for ready-to-drink beverages. It is our job to make the recycling system work at all levels; spread information about the recycling system, manage payments and coordinate the collection of empty packages.
The Swedish Parliament has decided on the regulation that governs our activities.
The regulation that governs our activities.
"Anyone who professionally drops ready-to-drink beverage in a plastic bottle or metal can or professionally brings ready-to-drink beverage in a plastic bottle or metal can to Sweden must ensure that the bottle or can is included in an approved recycling system, if the bottle or can is intended for the Swedish market."
Optional connection to the deposit system
As of Fall in 2015, producers of fruit syrup (saft) can optionally join the deposit system, and as of 2018, producers of juice has the same option. Several of the major producers of fruit syrup and juice have chosen to connect all or part of their products.
Our goal is set by the Swedish Parliament and Government. We work to reach 90 percent recycling of cans and PET bottles. It is the government through the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency that decides the recycling targets. The Swedish Board of Agriculture is the responsible supervisory authority for Returpack.
